Slough Translation & Interpreting Service is an autonomous, non profit making voluntary organisation set up and managed by Slough Race Equality Council.

The service has been set up by SREC in response to demands from the minority ethnic communities who have difficulty accessing statutory/voluntary and private sector services due to the language barrier.

To promote the provision and use of trained interpreters:

1. For people from minority ethnic communities living and/or working in Slough and the surrounding areas.
2. By statutory, voluntary and private sector service providers.

To provide a translation service in relation to 1 & 2 above.

To promote awareness among agencies of the value of using trained professional interpreters and providing translations of relevant materials into minority languages.

To encourage the recruitment, training and assessment of interpreters and translators.

To promote and organise co-operation in the achievement of the above purposes and to that end bring together in the service representatives of statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations and individuals engaged in the furtherance of the above purposes within Slough and the surrounding areas.

To promote equality of opportunity between people of different race, religion, colour, sex and disability and to work towards the elimination of discrimination and disadvantage within our multi-racial, multicultural society.
